Listening to Podcasts
What makes podcasts unique is the ability to subscribe to podcasts. When a podcast show is created it is simply created as an audio file, uasually in MP3 format. Then it is posted to a public directory on the internet to be downloaded. To make that file part of a podcast another file called an RSS feed (Real Simple Syndication) is used. That file contains information about all the episodes in the podcast including the episode filenames and locations as well as information about the episode itself in a little less detail than the shownotes page. Then people can subscribe to the podcast using an aggrigater such as Itunes. Itunes will then look at the RSS feed and download the new shows automaticly when they are posted. You can set your aggrigater to download at night so that the bandwith it uses will not affect your internet surfing. Once you have downloaded the show files you can copy them to your mp3 player and listen to them whenever or where ever it is convienient.
How to subscribe
Right click on the subscribe here link and choose copy shortcut.
Open your aggrigater and then choose open a stream.
If you use Itunes you can go into Itunes press ctrl-u and it will allow you to open stream.
Paste the shortcut in the open stream popup box from Itunes and click OK.
Itunes will automaticly start downloading the latest episode in the podcast.
